Monthly Expenses – April 2016

With some serious delay, here it is... my expense report of April 2016. It is almost time for the May one!

Back in January, I started this monthly expense series to show that it is possible to live a comfortable, exciting and relatively adventurous life without being rich. Or even without owning/earning a lot of money. That being said, Mark and I seem to manage one big expense a month for some reason, whether it is car, plane or computer related. Luckily, we live totally rent-free and still "in style", wherever we end up. 🙂

Here is an overview of our expenses in April, a higher than average month because of my plane ticket to Belgium.

Back in the Swing of Things

Wow! I feel totally “deblogged” after an absence of over a week and not writing about much else than the A-Z Blogging Challenge lately. But, I am back. Well, almost anyway. Still getting re-settled in our current home. My three week visit to Belgium has come to an end and I have returned into the arms of my wonderful husband who remained in New England. Now, our long-term house sit in Heath, MA can start in earnest. Even the sun arrived with rays of pure bliss. I love all these warm embraces. The scenery has turned from deep brown to vibrant green while I was away, and I am ready for summer!

A Change of Scenery

More than likely, the long-term traveler does not have the funds to splurge on a hotel room, B&B or resort, so she looks into her guidebook – or refers to recommendations from peers – and picks a hostel, guesthouse or backpackers place to get some rest. Or, she cuddles up next to her partner, in her own bed; a bed that is part of her sailboat or camper in which she is exploring the world. Everyone has an addiction (or two, or three), a yearning for something. An attraction that rarely, if ever, fades. As a nomad, mine is travel. One look at a world map or globe and my eyes are fixed, my heart beats faster and my thoughts wander to all the places I would like to visit and experience. X… the most difficult letter of the alphabet. If my A-Z Blogging theme would have been “amazing places I visited as a nomad”, a couple of favorites come to mind, like Xcalak and Xpu-Ha in the Yucatan province of Mexico. That would have been too easy, though… Maybe next year?
