A Life Less Ordinary

WW – Ambiance

I have decided to post photos of past travels in general and our eight year sailing adventure on SV Irie in particular for Wordless Wednesdays.  Also, I can’t manage “completely wordless”, but I’ll try my best at “almost wordless”. 🙂

With thousands of photos haphazardly archived over the years, I can’t easily pick what to post, so I use the weekly prompt of the Daily Post to inspire my Wordless Wednesdays. This week’s Daily Post photography theme is “ambiance“.

I relate ambiance with a feeling of contentment and joy. Many times a wonderful ambiance is created when hanging out with friends, something we finally get to do more often these days. The first thing that came to my mind when discovering this week’s photo theme was a campfire. The crackling sound, the woodsy smell, the intense warmth, the constantly changing shape of the flames all create an ambiance I can wallow in for hours.

Check out Terri’s post about this topic on Second Wind Leisure Perspectives. You might recognize some of the characters… 🙂

What does ambiance mean to you?

  1. There is absolutely nothing like a good campfire shared with friends!

  2. Campfires create instant ambiance.

  3. For me, ambiance has everything to do with tone of a setting. That tone can be wonderful or frightening, though the word tends to bring a more positive vibe to mind.

Also, I adore campfires, but not camping. A contradiction for sure.

  4. There is something about sitting around a campfire that evokes a smile on my face even thinking about it. So many adventures, shared times and experiences. Yes one hardly needs any words for just the photos brings a rush of moments in nature.

  5. Campfires do create a visceral ambiance. Even a fire in the fireplace. I loved sitting around a campfire at the beach, where the smell of smoke mingles with the smell of the ocean air. Your fire photo looks warm and inviting. Thanks for the shout-out! By the way, that post has received 76 likes so far, which is amazing because the photography is just OK. But the subjects? Inspiring 🙂

  6. It’s cool how you and Terri both used ‘fire’ for your ambiance photos. Both photos definitely create a warm, cozy atmosphere!

  7. Need the heat of fire here. Nice shot. Hope you visit mine too, Tnx

  8. For me, ambiance is the mood or character of a location — in time or in space. I particularly like the ambiance of your photo. It is friendly and inviting.

  9. I love campfires! A fire brings instant ambiance. They automatically soothe and calm me. So relaxing.

  10. Fire, water, earth. All make for good ambience. Hard to describe it exactly, because it is more of a feeling and personal at that. Campfires create it instantly as people have a central focus point that binds them. Kitchens can do it too!!

    • I never thought about kitchens when it comes to ambiance. I guess it is a place where people gather and have a good time with each other. When you mention water, I have to think back about our time in the flat harbors and atolls, a very different ambiance. And, thinking about “earth”, I remember vast and empty landscapes where I would find peace. Great response, Peta! 🙂

  11. Ooo I love a good campfire. And the though of enjoying one in Acadia is a cozy one indeed.

    • We are starting to miss camping and hope the weather will get warm soon, so we can head out into nature again, with our tent and our next temporary doggie. 🙂

This is the place where conversation is made. Please, join in!
